At least one student in the Appalachian Regional Commission-area will soon be awarded a new scholarship created by Jeffery Humble (2007).
Eastern Kentucky University announced the Jeffery Humble Endowed Scholarship Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in conjunction with the institute’s Giving Day. The annual award—which will begin at $5,000—will be given to a student or students who graduated from a high school within the ARC. Preference may be given to students aiming to major in political science or education, as well as students from single-parent families.
“It’s an honor to provide this opportunity because Eastern has provided so many opportunities to me,” Humble says. “As the son and grandson of educators—and a former education major—I’m so proud to give back to the next generation of Kentuckians.”
Humble—a member of the school’s alumni board and a Giving Day Ambassador—earned a Political Science degree from EKU in 2007 and later earned an MBA at Bethel University (Nashville). He’s spent the past two decades building a successful career in the health insurance field and is a 2024 candidate for Kentucky House District 21.
The first part of Humble’s career saw him travel extensively as he earned accolades both in his profession and as a philanthropist. He eventually seized an opportunity to put down roots and settled in his hometown in Adair County, where he took over his family farm.
“I’ve been all across the country and lived in some amazing places,” Humble says. “There’s something special about eastern and central Kentucky though. This is my home. We have so much potential here, so many bright students, and I’m glad one of them will be granted this chance at Eastern.”
The ARC serves 54 counties in Kentucky including all four (Adair, Cumberland, Metcalfe, and Monroe) in District 21.
