‘Tis The Season! Merry Christmas From Senator Max Wise

As we gather to celebrate this special season, let us first reflect on the profound gift of Christmas: the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His arrival brings hope, peace, and salvation, reminding us that love and grace are the true heart of the holiday. Following His example, this divine gift calls us to extend compassion, kindness, and generosity to one another.

The holiday season also allows us to connect more deeply with those we hold dear. The warmth of togetherness—shared meals, heartfelt conversations, and treasured traditions—shines all the brighter in the chilly winter air. It’s a time to pause from life’s busyness, express gratitude for our blessings, and embrace the people who make our lives meaningful.

As we enjoy this time of reflection and celebration, let us also remember and thank our first responders—firefighters, law enforcement officers, health care workers, and others—who may serve and protect our communities while we are home with loved ones. Their dedication and sacrifice ensure our safety and well-being, even during the holidays.

For many, Christmas is also a time of giving to those close to us and those who may be struggling or in need. Whether volunteering, donating, or simply offering a kind word, let us extend the spirit of love and generosity to friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. In doing so, we honor the true essence of this holy season.

As the year ends, we are invited to reflect on past challenges and triumphs and look forward with hope to the opportunities ahead. This season inspires renewal—a chance to let go of what weighs us down and embrace the promise of new beginnings. That is something I’ll embrace this year, and all should.

We must also remember that the holidays can be lonely or grief for some. Let us open our hearts and homes to those who may need companionship and ensure that no one feels forgotten during this season of love. If you have an opportunity and the means, consider donating to Toys for Tots to brighten the holiday for a child without, or contribute to organizations like the Salvation Army, God’s Pantry, or local food pantries and soup kitchens.

As you celebrate, whether in the quiet comfort of family or the joyful buzz of larger gatherings, I encourage you to prioritize safety and care. Let us cherish this time, honoring its sacred meaning and carrying its lessons of faith, love, and hope into the new year.

In the coming months, we’ll continue our efforts in preparation for the 2025 General Assembly. I am excited to take on greater legislative responsibility, as my colleagues named me the new Senate majority floor leader. This is not a responsibility I take lightly, and I am abundantly grateful for your trust in me as your state senator. If you would like to read some of my primary focuses in my new role, I encourage you to check out my latest op-ed, “The Bluegrass Blueprint for Growth,” published in the Lexington Herald-Leader and other publications. It’s an honor to serve as your state senator. I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a prosperous new year!
