October Proclaimed Family History Month In Columbia And Adair County

Proclamation signed by Mayor Pamela Hoots: 

WHEREAS, an estimated 80 million Americans are believed to be actively involved in genealogical research in an effort to learn more about their ancestors both before and after immigrating to our shores;

WHEREAS, a growing number of institutions, libraries, and individuals in America and elsewhere are involved in collecting, preserving, and sharing genealogies, personal documents and memorabilia about their own ancestors, relatives or other individuals;

WHEREAS, genealogical information is not only important to present day researchers and family members, but it provides documentation for future generations to come;

WHEREAS, October was proclaimed Family History Month to “reaffirm our pride in our history and keep us mindful of the sacrifices of our forbearers.”

WHEREAS, with the support and encouragement of the Adair County Genealogical Society, representing genealogists throughout the county, I do therefore, proclaim the month of October 2024, as Family History Month in Columbia and Adair County, Kentucky.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Columbia, Kentucky, does hereby promote and support October, 2024, as Family History Month.
