‘Anne of Green Gables: The Musical,’ ‘Wait Until Dark,’ ‘A Holiday Cabaret’ to be presented in V.P. Henry Auditorium.
COLUMBIA, KY. (08/27/2025) Two classics of the stage and a holiday treat make up this fall’s Lindsey Wilson University Theatre Department’s productions.
Lindsey Wilson will present the light-hearted Anne of Green Gables: The Musical, the suspenseful Wait Until Dark and A Holiday Cabaret. All three productions will be presented in the university’s V.P. Henry Auditorium.
“This fall will offer theatre audiences a diverse selection of productions — something that will help them relax, something that will keep them on the edge of their seats, and something that will help them get into the Christmas spirit,” said Lindsey Wilson theatre professor Robert Brock.
By coincidence, Canada figures prominently into the fall’s first two productions.
Anne of Green Gables: The Musical is an adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic 1908 children’s novel, Anne of Green Gables. Set in the late-1800’s in a fictional town in Prince Edward Island, Canada, it is the story of 11-year-old orphan Anne Shirley who is mistakenly sent to help on a farm. Anne of Green Gables: The Musical — which is Canada’s longest-running musical — was first produced in 1965.
It will be performed Nov. 3-7 for area schoolchildren and Nov. 6-7 for the public.
A year after Anne of Green Gables: The Musical made its stage debut, Frederick Knott’s thriller Wait Until Dark premiered on Broadway. A film version was released in 1967. Wait Until Dark is the story of a blind housewife who is targeted by three con men searching for drugs hidden in a doll that her husband unintentionally brought into the United States from Canada.
“It’s one of the best thrillers,” said Brock. “It’s a very tense play, and it’s one I’ve wanted to do for a while.”
Wait Until Dark will be performed Nov. 19-21 and 23.
The fall season will conclude with A Holiday Cabaret, which will be presented Dec. 4-5 and 7.
“It will be presented in the tradition of the classic Christmas specials from television’s golden age,” said Brock. “There will be a lot of singing, because this community has a lot of good voices.”
In addition to Lindsey Wilson students, Brock hopes that university’s faculty and staff, as well as community members, will audition to be in A Holiday Cabaret.
