FRANKFORT, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson College student leaders Zachariah Lawson ’26 and Sabrina Ruiz ’26 participated in a long-standing Kentucky tradition held Tuesday morning in Frankfort.
The Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, which dates to 1965, brings together leaders from Kentucky’s three branches of government to reflect, give thanks and seek inspiration for a brighter future.
Lawson is president this school year of the Lindsey Wilson Student Government Association, and Ruiz is vice president.
At the Tuesday morning event, student leaders from 15 Kentucky colleges and universities prayed alongside state government officials and heard a keynote address from Wan’Dale Robinson, a Kentucky Native who now plays for the New York Giants professional football team.
Following the breakfast, Lawson and Ruiz joined student leaders from other higher education institutions at the Kentucky Student Leadership Forum, where they heard Gov. Andy Beshear and other leaders speak on a variety of topics, including servant-leadership and their potential role in shaping the commonwealth.
Lawson, a double major in English and Christian ministries from Williamsburg, Kentucky, said he was moved by the personal testimonials given by many government leaders.
“One of the most impactful moments for me was when Rabbi Jacowitz Chottiner shared the advice, ‘Dream it, believe it, then go and achieve it,’” said Lawson. “It was also inspiring to engage with and learn from fellow student leaders representing over 15 institutions across the commonwealth.”
