Lindsey Wilson College Business Professor JC Phelps Named Faculty Member In Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Being a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar was a life-changing experience for JC Phelps, and now the Lindsey Wilson College business professor will get to provide the same opportunity for students as a Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program faculty member.

Phelps, who attended the 2011 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program at Centre College, will spend this summer as a Kentucky Governor’s Scholars faculty member at Morehead State University, where he will teach classes in the Business, Accounting and Entrepreneurship Focus Area. He will also lead a general studies course and co-lead a leadership seminar.

Phelps said the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program was “most transformational in my life.”

“Being a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar played a large role in my development and opened my eyes to the world,” said Phelps, who grew up in Jamestown, Kentucky, and graduated from Russell County High School in 2012. “I was changed because of attending the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program. It helped me grow and learn so much about the world.”

Phelps said he also appreciated meeting students from all over Kentucky.

“I had conversations with them that I’d never had before,” he said. “It was so nice to meet people from around the state and learn from them.”

Established in 1983, the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program is a five-week summer residential program for outstanding rising high school seniors in Kentucky. This summer, more than 1,000 members of the high school class of 2026 will attend the program at either Centre College, Morehead State or Murray State University. This year’s Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program will open in mid-June and run through the middle of July.
