EDMONTON, Ky. (March 8, 2024) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 in Columbia have made an arrest in an ongoing investigation into an attempted sexual abuse in Metcalfe County.
The investigation began on March 6, 2024 when KSP Troopers received a report of attempted sexual abuse. It was discovered that Richard Cecil Armstrong, age 23 of Cave City, had attempted to engage in inappropriate physical contact with a juvenile in Metcalfe County. As a result of the investigation, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Armstrong charging him with Rape 3rd Degree (Attempt).
On March 7, 2024, KSP Post 15 Troopers, along with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a residence on Goodluck Beaumont Road in Metcalfe County to attempt to locate Mr. Armstrong. Upon Trooper Brandon Poole’s arrival at the residence, he observed Mr. Armstrong fleeing away from the residence and into a field. Trooper Brandon Poole apprehended Mr. Armstrong after a foot pursuit.
The arrest warrant was served on Mr. Armstrong. Furthermore, Mr. Armstrong was also arrested and charged with the following additional charges:
Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree – Police Officer (2 Counts)
Resisting Arrest
Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree
Giving Officer False Identifying Information
Mr. Armstrong was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center and is currently held on a $25,000 cash bond. The case is being investigated by Trooper Ricky Cross.
