Historically Columbia And Adair: 12 Local Stories Celebrating The United States 250th Anniversary

As many of you know 2026 is a historic year in that we will all commemorate and celebrate the United States of America’s 250th anniversary.

As part of the nationwide celebration of America’s past, present, and future, the City of Columbia in conjunction with Mike Watson and the Adair County Genealogy Center will commemorate and tell 12 unique historical stories about major events in our community’s past.

One for each month of the year beginning with a story we will share soon in January.

Mayor Hoots had this to say about the endeavor, “We are excited to present stories of historical significance in our community.”

Be on the lookout on Facebook and in community publications for January’s special story!

We are also excited looking ahead to 2027 where we get to celebrate Columbia’s 225th year anniversary.

(Trey Stephens, Assistant to the Mayor – City of Columbia)
