Heartbreak in District Final, Indians Turn Focus to Bardstown Showdown in 5th Region Tournament

The Adair County Indians saw their 20th District Tournament run come to a close Friday night, falling to Taylor County 68-50 in the championship game. Despite the setback, the Indians now turn their attention to the 5th Region Tournament and another opportunity to extend their season.

Adair County came out competitive early, trailing just 12-8 after the first quarter and staying within striking distance at halftime, down 30-20. The Indians showed flashes of strong offensive execution in the second quarter, but a decisive third period proved costly. Taylor County erupted for 26 points in the frame, stretching the lead and forcing Adair County to play from behind the rest of the way.

Tylin George led the Indians with 19 points, knocking down three three-pointers and attacking the basket to keep Adair County within reach. Landon Blakey added eight points and was active on the boards with eight rebounds, while Dawson Gilbert chipped in eight points.

John Shehan contributed four points and battled inside, and the Indians found additional scoring from Trinton Breeze and Matthew Mejean. However, Adair County struggled to find consistent rhythm offensively, shooting 39.6 percent from the field and just 22.2 percent from three-point range (4-of-18). The Indians were also outrebounded 32-18, limiting second-chance opportunities.

While the district title slipped away, Adair County’s season is far from over. The Indians will regroup and prepare for regional play, where they’ll face Bardstown on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. EST in the first round of the 5th Region Tournament.

With a new stage and fresh opportunity ahead, the Indians will look to clean up the details, rebound with intensity, and make a strong statement as they chase a regional run.
