Columbia City Council Meeting Recap: May 2025

The Columbia City Council met in regular session on Monday evening. One of the primary items was a request for annexation from Vicky Browning Pike of property located on Burkesville Road next to Cumberland Parkway. The City Council approved the request.

The Mayor noted that the city has received preliminary approval on the 2024 Land and Water Conservation grant for the city park on Fairground Street. This is to be utilized for a sensory playground. The city will be submitting various documentation required.

Dr. Van Giles was appointed to the Columbia Adair County Economic Development Board.

The Mayor has met with FEMA and four public locations may be subject to some type of assistance. These are Burkesville Loop, Rice Drive, Oak Street, and Allison Lane. The council gave the mayor authority to proceed.

The City Council passed a resolution For the Government Resources Accelerating Needed Transformation Program (GRANT) for 2024. This is in reference to an economic development gas project.
