Columbia City Council Meeting Recap: March 2025

The Columbia City Council met in regular session for their March meeting this week.

The City Council voted to accept a proposal for the conversion of city street lights to LED (Kentucky Utilities). The city has a total of 654 street lights with Kentucky Utilities, with 81 of those lights being billed on LED. The city voted to take the sixty month proposal for conversion to LED.

The City Council voted to make application for a grant to be used for a pavilion at the Citizens Park. It will be placed in the footprint of the former structure.

Gas Superintendent Jerry Watson explained a gas project for Marshall Street for apparently one thousand feet of replacement line. The council voted to go forward with the project in the budget beginning July 1.

City council member Sharon Payne, who is a member of the Lake Cumberland Foundation Board, talked about a grant opportunity that could be available for the Trabue Russell House, funding opening later this year. The City Council voted to begin process on making the Trabue Russell House a 501(c)(3) organization.
