The preliminary investigation indicates that a man contacted 911, advising dispatch that his son was at his residence, firing a weapon in a threatening manner. Afterward, the suspect, Mr. Terry Carney, Jr., 37-years-old, of Bardstown, Ky., left the home in his truck. A short time later, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office deputies located him and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Mr. Carney immediately exited the vehicle while holding a firearm and fired his weapon. Officers also fired their weapons. Mr. Carney sustained fatal injuries. No officers were injured during this incident. An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Louisville, Ky.
