CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Robin Magruder, who has served at Campbellsville University since Aug. 2013, has been named the interim dean of CU’s School of Education.
On being named interim dean, Magruder said, “I am honored and humbled to be named the interim dean of the school of education. The School of Education has a long legacy of preparing quality teachers. I plan to continue this legacy.”
Prior to being named interim dean, Magruder served as a professor of education and chair of undergraduate studies in the School of Education.
“It is wonderful to walk in the local schools and see so many of our graduates in the classrooms and in administrative roles,” Magruder said. “It makes me very proud. I am thankful to work with such a wonderful faculty and staff in the School of Education.
“They make the difference because they care about our students. They go out of their way to meet their needs and show the love of Christ to our students.”
Magruder explained, as she begins her time as interim dean, her guiding verse is Micah 6:8, which says in part “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
“I plan to do that every day that I sit in this position,” Magruder said.
At Campbellsville University, Magruder has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses. She served as CU’s Faculty Forum chair for the 2020-21 academic year and was a strategic plan faculty leader, where she was one of seven faculty members selected to lead faculty and staff in developing portions of the university’s strategic plan. She is additionally the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Steering Committee Leader at Campbellsivlle University.
Magruder was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2019.
“Dr. Magruder was an obvious choice to serve as interim dean,” Dr. Donna Hedgepath, CU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, said. “Her previous experience with program management and accreditation contribute to her natural ability to lead and advocate for educator preparation in Kentucky.
“She also has a heart for Campbellsville University, our students and mission.”
Magruder has also taught at the University of Kentucky and Indiana Wesleyan University. In K-12, Magruder has taught at Bluegrass Christian Academy, Bloomfield Middle School and the Bardstown Adult Education Center – all in Nelson County, Ky. – as well as Saint Stephen Martyr School in Louisville.
“We are proud to see one of our own leaders stepping into this role,” Dr. Joseph Hopkins, president of Campbellsville University, said. “Dr. Magruder is a much beloved professor, and she serves as an excellent example of pedagogy and devotion to teaching.”
Magruder received a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Middle School Mathematics and Social Studies from the University of Louisville in 1992. She earned her Master of Education from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2004, and her Doctor of Education is from the University of Kentucky, which she received in 2012.
Magruder and her husband, Jamie Magruder, have been married for 32 years, and they have three children, who are all CU graduates: Tyler, a 2016 graduate; Evan, a 2018 graduate; and Lindsey, a 2020 graduate.
