Columbia, KY – Adair County is proud to welcome the first-ever all-women’s Brushpile Fishing Academy, a groundbreaking event designed to empower and educate female anglers of all experience levels. This inaugural academy will bring together 13 women, ranging in age from 14 to 65, for a hands-on, immersive fishing experience at Holmes Bend Marina on Green River Lake, March 26th-28th, 2026.
This unique event is made possible through a partnership between the Brushpile Fishing Academy, the Ron Wong Foundation, Holmes Bend Marina, and the Adair County Tourism Commission. Together, these organizations are working to create new opportunities for women in outdoor recreation while highlighting Adair County as a premier destination for fishing and lake tourism.
Participants will spend half of the day in classroom instruction, learning essential fishing techniques, strategies, and fundamentals. The second half of the day will take place on the water, where each participant will fish alongside a professional angler, gaining real-world experience and one-on-one guidance.
“This event is incredibly special because it opens the door for women of all ages to step into a space that has traditionally been male-dominated,” said Paige Nickel, Executive Director of Adair County Tourism. “We’re proud to help host something that not only brings people to our area, but teaches skills, builds confidence, connection, and a love for the outdoors.”
The all-women’s academy marks a historic milestone for Brushpile Fishing Academy, as it is the first event of its kind ever offered. Organizers hope this will serve as a model for future programs and inspire more women to get involved in fishing and outdoor recreation.
By hosting innovative events like this, Adair County continues to strengthen its reputation as a destination for family-friendly adventure, outdoor experiences, and community-driven tourism.
