The City of Columbia City Council met in regular session on Monday, March 2, 2026.
The local Valley of the Cumberland DeMolay led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Month of March, 2026, has been proclaimed as DeMolay Month as the result of a proclamation issued by Mayor Hoots.
The City Council gave second reading to Ordinance 920.121, an ordinance amending the Columbia Zoning Regulations and Columbia Official Zoning Districts Map. The City Council gave first reading to an ordinance amending the compensation for the office of Mayor of the City of Columbia.
The City Council did an adoption of Statement of Goals and Objectives for the Columbia Comprehensive Plan.
Mayor Hoots gave a listing of streets to be considered for spring paving (all or portion of): Parkway Manor Drive, Sunny Hill Drive, Garrett Street, Hughes Street, Progress Drive, Pittman Street, and Travis Street. The Council approved to advertise to bid for these streets.
The Mayor gave an update on the Synergy building. Synergy is scheduled to be out by May 1. The City has several interested parties in the property.
The Mayor noted that several had contacted the city about a sports complex (baseball field, softball field, indoor basketball, and soccer). There are not grant opportunities for land; but, could be for facilities. She asked for permission to write the Economic Development Authority to see if they would be willing to donate some acreage in the Industrial Park. The Council authorized the letter.
