The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) is alerting the public, healthcare providers, first responders, and law enforcement agencies to the confirmed presence of Cychlorphine, a highly potent synthetic opioid, in central Kentucky. This dangerous substance has been linked to overdose deaths in neighboring regions, including eastern Tennessee, and is expected to expand to additional areas within the Commonwealth.
Cychlorphine is estimated to be approximately ten times more potent than fentanyl. Due to its extreme strength, even trace amounts may result in severe respiratory depression or death.
Officials report that Cychlorphine is frequently mixed with other illicit narcotics. Individuals may be unknowingly exposed, significantly increasing the risk of accidental overdose. The unpredictable nature of the illicit drug supply heightens the danger to users and first responders alike.
Preliminary reports indicate that overdoses involving Cychlorphine may require multiple doses of naloxone (Narcan) for reversal. Standard single-dose administration may not be sufficient in all cases.
The Columbia Police Department urges the public to stay safe, remain alert, and immediately report any suspected drug-related activity to authorities and/or the Columbia Police Department Drug Tip-Line at (270) 378-2259 (Cally’s Line). Callers will remain anonymous.
