Metcalfe County man charged with murder

46-year-old Bobbie Lawson, of Summershade, KY, was arrested today and charged with Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Abuse of a Corpse.  Post 15 was contacted by the Metcalfe County Sheriffs Department in reference to a deceased person found at a residence on Nobob Summer Shade Road.  The investigation led to the arrest of Lawson who was lodged in the the Metcalfe County Jail.  The identity of the deceased is yet to be determined.  An autopsy has been scheduled by for Tuesday, August 15th at the state medical examiner's office.  No additional information is availabe at this time.  Detective Kenny Brown is investigating.

Single Vehicle Accident in Adair County

On Saturday August 5, 2017 the Adair County Sheriff’s office responded, to a single vehicle injury accident at approximately 150 Portland Road.

Accident occurred when 40 year old Andrea Vanarsdale operator of a 1995 Chevrolet tracker along with a passenger 39 year old Tim Vanarsdale was traveling west on Portland road when the vehicle left the roadway overturning in a ditch. Both occupants were treated on the scene by Adair County EMS and transported to T.J. Health of Columbia for injuries sustained. Deputy Brandon Hitch is the investigating officer assisted on the scene by Deputy Justin Cross and Kentucky State Trooper Billy Begley.

Cumberland Parkway Closed in Metcalfe County Due to Overturned Semi

Kentucky State Police is currently on scene of an overturned semi on the Cumberland Parkway that occurred at 4:30 a.m. near the 34 mile marker.  The westbound lanes of the roadway are currently closed.  Detours have been established, motorist are being routed to KY 80 from both Edmonton and Columbia.  Motorist are urged to avoid the area if possible.  Further updates will follow.

Post 15 activity for July 2017

Columbia, Ky. (August 4, 2017) During the month of July 2017, there were 33 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

There were two fatal collisions during the month of July in the Post 15 area.

Phillip Dillon, 26 years old of Boyle Co KY was killed on 07/08/17 in Casey Co KY.

Dylan Cheatham, 25 years old of Washington Co KY was killed on 07/31/17 in Washington Co KY.

This brings our yearly fatality count to 9 compared with 13 through this same period in 2016.

Statewide fatality count stands at 416 compared with 455 through this same period in 2016.

During the month of July 2017, there were 1033 citations written, 206 courtesy notices written, 1441 vehicles inspected, 713 complaints answered, 83 motorists assisted, 61 criminal cases opened and 134 criminal arrests made.

Two Vehicle Accident in Adair County
Columbia Police Department was dispatched to the 2000 block of Campbellsville Rd. to a reported two vehicle collision with injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates Christopher Cook 38 of Taylor County was traveling south on KY 55 in a 1998 Grand Jeep Cherokee when he struck a 2003 Saturn operated by 57 year old Randell Wheat of Adair County in the rear of vehicle . Wheat was in traffic that had slowed for a Farm implement on the roadway. Cook failed to see traffic had slowed and was unable to slow or stop his vehicle.   The collision sent the 2003 Saturn off the roadway overturning once before it came to rest.

Wheat was treated on scene by Adair County Ems and transported to TJ Health of Columbia. Wheat was then flown by PHI Air Medical services to the University of Kentucky for Head Trauma related injuries. The collision is being investigated by CPD Officer Josh Brockman who was assisted by Ofc John Dial, Deputy Justin Cross and Trooper Chase Willis.

Cell phone usage is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision and Cook who was not injured was charged for operating a vehicle on an expired license and no insurance.

Russell County Shooting

A Russell County man was arrested late Saturday afternoon after allegedly shooting at a woman following a dispute involving a vehicle.

Deputy Evan Burton & Deputy Ethan Pike responded to the complaint at 5105 North U.S. 127 at 4:37 p.m. Their investigation determined that Jamie Passmore, 43, of Dunnville, shot at 29 year old Amanda Troxell while she was running away from the residence after a verbal argument.

Passmore was arrested and charged with three counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Terroristic Threatening. A double-barreled shotgun was seized as evidence in this investigation.

Passmore was processed and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.

Russell County Sheriff’s Department arrests Two Person for Drug Trafficking

An investigation by the Russell County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in the arrests of two persons on felony drug trafficking charges and the seizure of approximately 25 pounds of Marijuana.

Just before 12 noon Thursday, Yadira Valencia Alcaraz, 29, was taken into custody at a residence on J.D.B. Spur Road, about four miles east of Russell Springs and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, over 5 pounds.

The continuing investigation lead to the arrest of Alcaraz’s father, 53 year old Estercicio Morales, at approximately 2:00 p.m. on McClendon Ridge Road. Morales was charged with Conspiracy to Traffic in Marijuana, over 5 pounds.

Alcaraz and Morales were processed and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.

The arrests and seizure were made by Sheriff Clete McAninch, Det. Joey Hoover, Deputy Nathan Ginn, Deputy Nathan Antle & K-9 Maxo, KSP Trooper Billy Begley and DEA Agent Greg Bunch.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cumberland County fatal collision 

  

Burkesville, Ky. (August 4, 2017) Tpr. Jonathan Paull is investigating a collision that occurred Thursday, August 3rd at approximately 8:18 PM CST on KY 90 in the limits of Marrowbone.  32-year-old Jeffery Cyphers, of Burkesville, was operating a westbound 4 door Dodge when he attempted to make a left hand turn into a private driveway.  The vehicle collided with an eastbound black motorcycle operated by 20-year-old Zachary Gray, of Burkesville.

Mr. Gray was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner.  Mr. Cyphers was belted and not injured.  

Tpr. Paull was assisted at the scene by the Cumberland County Sheriff, Fire, Rescue, EMS, Coroner and the KY State Highway Department.
