Thursday, June 8, 2017 – A Russell Springs woman sustained
minor injuries during a two-vehicle collision around 11:30 a.m.

Lt. David Cain’s investigation determined George Coe, 78, of
Russell Springs, was operating a 2012 Toyota pickup, attempting
to enter onto East KY 80 from a residential driveway, pulling into
the path of a 2010 Chevrolet car being driven by Paulette Brown,
63, also of Russell Springs.

Brown was transported by ambulance to the Russell County
Hospital for treatment and observation. Coe was not injured.

A two-vehicle collision just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
(June 6th) in the Salem community sent two persons to
the Russell County Hospital emergency room.

Deputy Nathan Ginn’s preliminary investigation determined
that Shauntell Jayme, 26, of Columbia, was operating a KIA
Soul, attempting to turn right from KY 76 onto KY 910,
pulling into the path of a westbound Suzuki Samurai being
driven by Owen George, 19, of Russell Springs, resulting in
George’s vehicle striking Jayme’s vehicle in the driver’s side.
George’s vehicle then rolled onto its side.

Jayme and George were both transported by Russell County
EMS to the Russell County Hospital for treatment of various
injuries.

Deputy Ginn was assisted by KSP Trooper Mike Woodrum.

The Adair County High School Site Base Council will hold
a Special Called meeting Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 4:30
p.m. in the high school library.  The purpose of the meeting
is to review applications and sign off on a textbook
purchasing plan.

KY 379 in Russell County to be temporarily closed tomorrow
Closure for cross drain replacement
SOMERSET, Ky. (June 5, 2017) – The Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet will temporarily close KY 379 in Russell County beginning
at mile point 12.8 (KY 619/KY 3281) and ending at mile point 14
(KY 832) tomorrow, June 6.
The closure is necessary for crews to replace a cross drain beneath
the roadway.
The closure will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m. and will re-open at
approximately 1:00 p.m. CDT.
Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and will be detoured via KY 832
and KY 619. 
The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted for
inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.

Arrest made in Gamaliel Elementary fire
investigation
 
Columbia, Ky. (June 3, 2017) – A juvenile has been charged
with Arson 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and
Burglary 3rd degree in connection to a fire that occurred on Friday,
June 2, 2017 around 1:30 PM CST.  Post 15 was notified Friday,
at approximately 2:26 PM CST, that departments were attempting
to put out a working structure fire at the Gamaliel Elementary
school in the limits of Gamaliel. 
Five school employees were working in the school when the
blaze began but all were able to make their way to safety
and no injuries were reported.  Architects estimate that the school
received upward of $1,000,000 in structure damage.
The juvenile was charged and released to her parents. Arson
Investigator Alex Wesley is investigating and additional charges
are expected.

p.m. benefiting “Toys for Tots!”This month’s luncheon will be
held in the parking lot of the Russell County Tourist
Commission, located between Arby’s & Long John Silvers,
in Russell Springs. You’ll get two hot dogs with your choice
of fixins, chips and a drink for whatever amount you want
to pay – no set price! Picnic tables as well as drive-thru
service will be available. All donations will go to the
“Toys for Tots” coordinated by the Russell County Jaycees!

Post 15 to conduct safety traffic checkpoints
 
Columbia, Ky. (June 1, 2017) – Kentucky State Police, Post
15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15
area, which includes Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey,
Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland.
Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are
not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the
public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will
be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area
that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting
in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint
usage ratio

Adair County Injury Collision

Columbia, Ky. (June 1, 2017) – Trooper Nick Hale is
investigating a collision that occurred at 11:07 AM CST on
KY 55, 2 miles south of Columbia. 40-year-old Brian Pedigo,
of Smiths Grove, was operating a 2010 Ford passenger car,
pulled out of a driveway on KY 55 south and pulled into
the  path of a 2001 Buick passenger car operated by
27-year-old Jason Morgan, of Columbia. Pedigo's vehicle
struck the Morgan vehicle in the rear passenger side. 
Both operators were wearing seatbelts.  Morgan and Pedigo
were not injured. 
Three passengers in the Morgan vehicle, 8-year-old Jaden
Elmore, 6-year-old Lilly Elmore and 1-year-old Brantlee Morgan,
all of Columbia, were belted and were transported by EMS to
TJ Healthcare of Columbia and treated for non-life threatening
injuries.
